My gift exchange item will consist of a small booklet containing 21 match stick puzzles ( in honor of Martin Gardner being born on the 21st of October), as well as a collection of match sticks to solve the puzzles with. The match sticks will have the ends cut off so that there is no danger of fire.

A Flexier Hexaflexagon

This is a standard trihexaflexagon with some extra crease lines. Cut it out and fold it up in the usual way, using tape or glue, adding the extra creases. The new degrees of freedom allow the hexaflexagon to swim along itself like Escher's fish, as demonstrated three-quarters of the way through my short video "Flexagon Secrets Revealed 1" at

(see 03:20 and beyond). Would this move work with a rigid network, or does it hinge (pun intended) on subtle properties of physical paper? I don't know!

Cut-and-fold a polyhedron with 7 vertices, 14 faces, 21 edges, and a hole through it like a doughnut. A cube has internal diagonals that connect the diametrically opposite corners. By contrast, this polyhedron has no internal diagonals. There are three other 14-faced polyhedra like this. The only other known example of a polyhedron with no diagonals is the tetrahedron.

Alternatively, those with a cutting machine can cut the closed regions on each face of the polyhedron to obtain an interesting polyhedron once assembled. The piece is a prototype for a battery operated votive holder that can be cut using a laser cutter.

9 loose square wafers of plastic with a hole in the center of all but one that has a cylindrical pin. It is clear that the wafers can be stacked on the pin. 7 of the wafers have notches of various size in the edges. There are no hints included. Each wafer can be flipped or rotated in 4 positions in relations to each other and can be in one of 8 positions on the stack. The goal is to find out what it is.. and I'm not telling! The puzzle is 3d printed in white PLA, using two Creality CR10S printers. It was designed using Rhino and sliced using Simplify3D.
